The name “Whose Broad Stripes” has more than one meaning. The line
itself comes directly from our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,”
which is a tribute to the greatest man-made symbol of freedom and triumph ever written.
It’s also a reference to the physical wounds, and unfathomable
pain and suffering Jesus Christ was willing to endure to save us all. Isaiah
53:5 says “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our
iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes
we are healed.”
